Robert Lewandowski completed a move to Barcelona earlier in the window, but he didn’t have the best ending at Bayern Munich as the there was a war of words between club and forward towards the end of his time in Bavaria.

The Pole made it clear he wanted to leave the club at the end of the 2021-22 season, and declared that to the press as well as the German champions.

While they were reluctant to sell him, Bayern eventually got around and got the fee they desired from Barcelona after weeks of negotiations between the two parties.

And while Lewandowski will always have a place in Bayern folklore for his achievements at the Allianz Arena, the ending might leave a sour taste in many mouths.

Lewandowski apologises for behaviour

He often spoke to the media about his displeasure over Bayern refusing his desire to leave, and many fans turned against Lewandowski over the way he handled the transfer.

Now, Lewandowski has apologized to the club’s fans over the manner in which he left the club, in a conversation with German publication Sport1.

“I know that hurt a lot of fans. I can understand them and now I can only apologize for that. At that moment it was important and necessary for me to make it clear I was ready for a move.

“After 12 years in Germany it was clear to me that I’m done here. I wanted to make that clear, because it wasn’t easy for FC Bayern to agree to selling me during this phase.

“It was a difficult situation for everyone involved and we had to find the best solution,” he said, as he wished for forgiveness from the Bavarian support.

Lewandowski was at Bayern Munich between 2014 and 2022, winning every possible trophy and scoring 344 goals in 375 appearances for the club.
