There have been big-money transfers, wars of words and legal battles that have taken time to resolve, and they’re set to do battle again in the coming months.

Both clubs are interested in signing Andrey Nascimento dos Santos, simply known as Andrey Santos, the emerging Brazilian midfielder at Vasco da Gama.

Santos, 18, is being watched by some of the top clubs around Europe including Manchester City and Chelsea as well and his performances are garnering attention.

PSG and Barcelona set to battle for midfielder

According to some reports, Barcelona have already been in contact with Vasco da Gama over the summer with a view to getting a deal done in the near future.

Barcelona see him as the long-term successor to Sergio Busquets, who is in the final years of his career, and want Santos to take over in the long run.

The Catalan side and PSG are the two with the biggest interest and are willing to pay big for the player – fees of around €35 million have been quoted for the youngster.

Newcastle United are another club monitoring the situation, having already seen so much success with Brazilian players in recent times, such as Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes.

Barcelona and PSG may go to a bidding war as early as the January transfer window to avoid a battle with other clubs in the future and be forced to pay a higher fee.

Over the summer, there were rumours of talks for Frenkie de Jong, while PSG were interested in Robert Lewandowski before he went to Catalonia, and any possible rift was cooled.
