Manchester City striker Erling Haaland reportedly has two release clauses in his contract.

Haaland has a release clause that comes into effect in the summer of 2024 that is worth €200 million.

According to The Athletic, that release clause is only valid for clubs outside of the Premier League.

It is also reported that the release clause will decrease each year after it is activated in 2024.

The Norwegian superstar also reportedly has a second minimum fee release clause that will be activated in the summer of 2025 that stands at €175m. It will then decrease again in 2026.

This means that if Man City receive a transfer bid from foreign clubs that matches those amounts from the dates specified, they will be powerless to prevent Haaland leaving.

However, these release clauses have not been publicly confirmed.

Haaland's agent Rafaela Pimenta said in May 2023: “The release clause in Haaland’s contract is a mystery, it reminds me of Treasure Island. No one knows… I like it!”, she told Mundo Deportivo.

“Was the clause removed after Pep Guardiola signed a new deal? No comment on contracts. We have had many stories about that."

Haaland completed a €60m transfer to Man Utd from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.

He signed a five-year contract at the club until 2027, worth €439,000 per week, or €22.9m per year.

Haaland thus became his new team’s highest-paid player along with Kevin de Bruyne.

The Norwegian enjoyed a stunning 2022-23 season with City, breaking record after record and scoring over 50 goals for his club.

City beat off competition from virtually every major club on the continent to sign the attacker in 2022.

Haaland turned down Real Madrid and Barcelona in order to join the English champions.

Haaland had enjoyed two superb years at Borussia Dortmund after joining from RB Salzburg in January 2020.

He scored 86 goals in just 89 games for the club in all competitions.

These reported release clauses in his Man City contract will add to the rumours that Haaland plans to join Real Madrid after he has spent two or three years at the Etihad.

Madrid currently have Karim Benzema as their number nine, which is one of the reasons why the Blancos did not push harder to sign Haaland from Dortmund.

But with Benzema now 35, Madrid know that they need to find a successor in the next couple of seasons or so.

Haaland is believed to be the best replacement for the French star.
