Barcelona recently announced they completed a deal to sign Danish defender Andreas Christensen on a free transfer, and one former midfielder believes he needs to show more aggression.

The Blaugrana announced the signing of the defender this past weekend, following an agreement with him earlier in the year, and they will now have to work to register him in time for the start of the season.

The Danish defender left Chelsea, following the expiry of his contract at the end of last season, having spent eight years there.

Now, though, he’s there to add depth to Barcelona’s defence, which often struggled in the first half of last season, and joins the likes of Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia and others.

Fabregas believes Christensen needs one more quality

Cesc Fabregas, though, who played at Chelsea when Christensen was starting off in his career and also at Barcelona before that, says he’s impressed by the signing but lacks one quality.

"He seems like a great player. When he was young you could already see the way he could read the game, to anticipate the play,” Fabregas said on a Twitch stream recently.

“Now, I always say, sometimes, he needs to be a bit more of a bastard. It's a little bit what I see in Eric García. In today's football, without attacking anyone, but you have to be a little more forceful."

Barcelona have been looking for further reinforcements in defence to go alongside Christensen, and have targeted Sevilla’s Jules Kounde over a possible move.

The French defender has made it clear he wants to leave his club, and Sevilla are open to selling, but a move is complicated by the high fee demanded.

Barcelona are looking at an immediate rise in funds that will help them in the short run, following the activation of a few economic levers, achieved through the sale of shares of the club’s property.
