Three Barcelona players who could have their contracts rescinded
Barcelona’s financial issues are well-documented and the Catalan club must free up some money if they are going to be able to make signings this summer. With LaLiga applying strict financial controls, Barça can only spend a portion of what they save, so they’ll look to clear as much as they possibly can in wages.
While Barcelona would like to bring in transfer fees for all the players they are trying to move on, Sport has reported that Joan Laporta and co. will also consider rescinding contracts as a last resort, allowing certain players to walk away for free if it means Barcelona can get their salaries off the books.
Barcelona will try to sell several players this summer. If that is not possible, they may even terminate the contracts of a couple of players.

Although the club would look to negotiate mutual terminations of contacts, they did unilaterally rescind Matheus Fernandes’ contract last summer. That, though, was a unique case and still caused legal problems for the club, so they’ll look to avoid a repeat in the summer of 2022.
Here, then, comes a look at three players currently contracted to Barcelona who the Catalan club could try to talk into a rescinding of their contract.

Oscar Mingueza
Oscar Mingueza is very unlikely to still be in the Barcelona first-team squad in the 2022/23 season. The La Masia graduate hasn’t convinced Xavi and is set to leave, with several clubs around LaLiga Santander keen to sign the versatile defender. Although Barça are looking to bring in €5m for Mingueza, that seems ambitious since he only has one year left of his contract, since his performances in 2022/23 were poor and since the clubs that want him can’t afford that. One option, therefore, is to rescind the contract and allow the defender to walk away from Barcelona into the free agent market.
Martin Braithwaite
Of all the non-injured players in the squad, Martin Braithwaite was the one given the fewest minutes by Xavi this term. The Danish striker played just 22 minutes for the new coach, so it’s clear that Xavi wants him to be moved on this summer. Braithwaite has a contract until 2024, but Barcelona may try to negotiate an early termination of this contract to allow the player to control his future and to allow Barcelona to free up the wages they had assigned for him in 2022/23 and in 2023/24.
Neto
Neto is another player who should depart the Camp Nou this summer and rescinding his contract could be mutually beneficial. The player wants to become a starter again by moving to another club, while Barça believe Inaki Pena is ready to become the backup to Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Freeing up Neto’s wages and his place on the bench is the priority, therefore, for Barcelona, although they might hold on to the Brazilian for the time being in case a swap deal offer comes in.
