It was his first start for over a year, since playing for Man Utd against Liverpool 390 days ago on April 19, 2022.

But Pogba's joy at finally starting against for Juventus was short-lived. He was forced off injured after just 24 minutes after pulling up with a thigh injury.

Pogba was noticeably distraught and broke down in tears as he left the pitch. Juventus substitute Angel di Maria came off the bench to console him.

It has been a disastrous season for Pogba, who has been plagued by injuries since his free transfer move back to Juventus from Manchester United last summer.

In September of last year, the 29-year-old underwent surgery for a torn meniscus that he suffered during the summer and which had not responded to conservative treatment.

He had tried to recover in time for the World Cup with France but then suffered a thigh injury prior to the finals.

Pogba then suffered a number of setbacks from December onwards.

He did not make his debut off the bench until February 28 as a 21-minute substitute against Torino.

But after a 13-minute outing against Roma in his second game on March 5, Pogba suffered another injury which ruled him out for a month.

Pogba substitute appearances

He returned to action a month ago on April 13 as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon.

He then made another six substitute appearances, ranging from five to 25 minutes of action.

Pogba got his first goal contribution as a sub on Thursday, setting up the injury time equaliser for Federico Gatti in the 1-1 Europa League semi-final first-leg draw against Sevilla.

Manager Max Allegri finally gave him a start against Cremonese but the injury means his season to forget is most probably over now.
