Five Barcelona players who need a transfer this summer

Barcelona are set for a busy transfer window as they look to build on their second-place league finish from this season, and compete for La Liga next campaign.

Xavi Hernandez' side finished 13 points behind Real Madrid, who also won the Champions League, much to Barca fans' discontent.

The summer is going to be big, and along with incomings, there will have to be some players leaving to get the squad right.

So, which players could leave Barcelona this summer as they begin an overhaul?

Ousmane Dembele

Having struggled to stay healthy in five seasons at Camp Nou, Dembele is ready to leave Barcelona.

And, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, a move to the Premier League with Chelsea is on the horizon.

Dembele registered 13 assists in just 15 league starts this season, his best in a Barcelona shirt, but he wants a new challenge.

Samuel Umtiti

Samuel Umtiti is set to leave Barcelona after enduring a few difficult years at the club, with constant injury problems affecting his playing time.

The player hasn’t had the best relationship with the fans in recent times as well, and all signs point towards and exit.

Barcelona extended his contract earlier this season, but that was mainly done to ease the stress on their wage bill and will be hoping to get rid of that in the summer.

Clement Lenglet

One area where Barcelona have established some cover of late is in the centre of defence, with the emergence of Oscar Mingueza and Ronald Araujo.

As a result, Lenglet, who was signed from Sevilla for €40m, may prove surplus to requirements, allowing Barcelona to earn a modest fee while also removing him from the wage bill.

Lenglet signed a new deal in 2020 but his inconsistent performances since have led to plenty of criticism.

Sergi Roberto

Though he has never been considered a key player at Barcelona, Roberto has been with the club his entire professional career, having came through the academy at La Masia.

He has amassed over 300 appearances for the Blaugrana, and developed himself into a competent right-back, having spent his career prior to that as a central midfielder.

In the past two seasons, though, he has started just 13 matches in La Liga, which is an indicator that his time at Barca is perhaps winding down.

Though he has always been a good player, he perhaps has not reached the levels of his early promise.

Mepmhis Depay

Of course, Memphis Depay would have been well aware of his precarious situation long before the fateful Europa League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, but this surely sealed the deal.

The forward was little more than an afterthought in the initial team line up for the biggest game of the season, signalling that his team is well and truly up.

Beyond that, since the January transfer window, in which the club signed no less than three forwards, Depay has been sidelined and entirely overlooked by Xavi.

As often happens when new managers arrive at clubs, players fall out of favour and there’s no doubt that Depay will need to find another club this summer if he hopes to be playing regular football next season.
