Liverpool had already earned €1.6m before the FA Cup final, while there was £1.8m at stake at Wembley. By winning the trophy, Liverpool’s total prize money for their FA Cup run hit £3.4m.

How much prize money did Liverpool earn in the 2021/22 Carabao Cup?

With the Carabao Cup, the amount of prize money is significantly lower than that of the FA Cup. The total pot for the whole tournament is just £1m, and the winners only get £100,000 of that.

How much prize money will Liverpool earn for the 2021/22 Premier League?

Money in the Premier League is distributed based on an even share of domestic and international TV rights and central commercial revenues, while the differences coming through merit payments and domestic facility fees, based on how many times each team is televised live. Should Liverpool finish top of the Premier League, they’d earn £44m in merit payments, while second place would be £41.8m. Adding up all the elements of Premier League payments, Sporting Intel estimate that Liverpool would take £160.9m if they stay second this season.

How much prize money will Liverpool earn for the 2021/22 Champions League?

Prize money is given out in the Champions League based on how far teams go and how many wins and draws they accumulate along the way. Qualifying meant €15.6m and then, in the group stage, UEFA pays out €2.8m for each win and Liverpool won every match, while their run through the knockouts has added another €69.5m. The total so far is €85.1m, while there will be another €4.5m should the Reds win the final against Real Madrid, which would be €89.6m or £76m. That’s before counting the TV money and coefficient money, so Liverpool’s final income from the Champions League will be even higher.

So, what is Liverpool’s total prize money for the 2021/22 season?

Adding up the £3.4m FA Cup prize money, £0.1m Carabao Cup money, the £41.8m Premier League merit payment for finishing second and the £76m Liverpool could earn by going on to win the Champions League, that would be a total of £121.3m for the 2021/22 season, just in prize money.

This, it should be pointed out, is before considering the rest of the TV money from the Champions League and Premier League, which will approximately treble that figure. This also isn’t factoring in ticket and matchday revenue from all the games Liverpool have played, which will be significant since Klopp’s side have qualified for every fixture it was possible to play this year.
