Sergio Aguero and Arsenal would be an ideal fit if the Argentine decides to stay in the Premier League, according to his former team-mate Gael Clichy.

Last week, the news broke that Manchester City would not be renewing the contract of Aguero, which expires at the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign.

The prolific forward has been with the Premier League giants for a decade, and has played an instrumental part in them becoming a major force at home and in Europe, scoring the goal to win their first ever Premier League title in 2012.

However, injuries have ravaged his career over the past 18 months, and with just six starts in all competitions under his belt in 2020/21, City and Aguero have decided to mutually part ways.

With that news came speculation about where Aguero could end up, with reports emerging linking him to Barcelona, Chelsea, and Inter.

Aguero at Arsenal?

One team that hasn’t been mentioned too much yet is Arsenal, and Clichy believes this could prove to be an ideal scenario for both parties.

But, only if Aguero decides to remain in the Premier League to continue his goalscoring exploits.

“I could see him staying in the Premier League, because he will want to climb to third or second [in the all-time top goalscorers charts],” the former Chelsea and Arsenal defender told Stadium Astro.

“He can get there, for sure. Does he want that? Ten years with Manchester City is enough, I think he will move where he can enjoy it a bit more.

“Can he see himself at another English club? That’s the question. He loves the sun.

“I would like to see him stay [in England] to get to second or third in goals, but I think he will move away from the Premier League.

“I think Arsenal is a good fit, in terms of style of play. They play nice football and they create opportunities, but I really doubt he would go there.

Clichy ultimately thinks Aguero will go back to La Liga, though, having previously made his name with Atletico Madrid.

“I’m pretty sure he will go to Spain,” he added.
