Harry Kane would be a better signing than Erling Braut Haaland when Manchester City splash the cash on a new forward this summer.

That is the opinion of former Man City defender Steve Howey, who spent three years at the club at the start of the millennium.

City are expected to spend big on a new centre forward this summer, with Sergio Aguero expected to leave the club when his contract expires.

Two of the names on Man City’s shortlist to replace Aguero are Tottenham Hostpur striker Kane and Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Haaland.

Both attackers are among the most prolific in Europe, but Howey believes the Englishman would be the wiser purchase.

“Imagine how many goals Kane would score at Man City,” Howey told FootballFancast.com.

“He’d score about five a game, the amount of chances he would get.

“He scores goals on his own, he creates his own goals.

“It’s basically like having four Heung-Min Sons in the same team.

“He would be absolutely lethal. For me, I think that he would be a better signing than [Erling] Haaland.”

Kane has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season from 32 games. Haaland, meanwhile, has found the back of the net 23 times in 23 appearances across domestic and European competition.
