Monaco are pushing to secure Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira on loan for the remainder of the campaign, according to reports.

The Uruguayan is currently at Atletico Madrid having signed a season-long deal with the Spanish club in October after finding himself surplus to requirements at the Emirates.

However, he has struggled to force his way into Diego Simeone’s plans thus far, and has clocked up just eight La Liga appearances in total.

AS report that Arsenal sporting director Edu is keen for Torreira to move on this month in order to pick up more playing time.

Valencia had been previously credited with an interest in the midfielder, but they are believed to no longer be in the running.

And it is the same story for Italian outfit Torino following the recent departure of manager Marco Giampaolo.

That leaves Monaco with a clear run at Torreira, though they will need to convince Atletico to let the player go while striking a deal with Arsenal.

Relations between the two clubs are believed to be strong thanks to relatively recent negotiations for the likes of Yannick Carrasco and Thomas Lemar.

However, Simeone is alleged to be reluctant to lose a player from his squad during a season defined by its challenging fixture schedule.

Atletico currently sit top of La Liga, seven points ahead of city rivals Real Madrid with a game in hand.
