Revealed: Real Madrid's plan to sign Alphonso Davies

Real Madrid are interested in Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies. How and when do they plan to sign him?

Real may be Spanish and European champions, but they are always looking to improve with new signings, and have lined up Bayern and Canada star Davies as their left-back of the future.

The Madrid giants already boast current Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema as their No.9, for example, but they have already secured the €72 million acquisition of Brazilian wonderkid Endrick from Palmeiras, the striker joining when he turns 18 in the summer of 2024.

As with Benzema in attack, Real are currently well-stocked at left-back, with Ferland Mendy their first-choice and David Alaba able to deputise in the position, but they are 27 and 30 respectively and the position might need to be replenished 18 months from now.

"Flying left-back Davies is los Blanco's No.3 of choice from 2024, the same summer they would sign Endrick," report Spanish sports daily AS.

"They particularly liked his performances at the World Cup. There had been little doubt about his ability to perform at the top level with Bayern Munich, but he showed his stripes as a leader [with Canada]; a personality type that fits Madrid."

Alphonso Davies Career Highlights & Contract

Davies missed a penalty against Belgium in Canada's opening Group F game in Qatar, but he rebounded with a goal against Croatia and impressed in a more advanced position than he plays in at club level.

Davies is still only 22, but he has already won four Bundesliga titles with Bayern and the Champions League in 2020 - his sitting down of Nelson Semedo in the quarter-finals of the latter a YouTube favourite ever since.

His contract at the Allianz Arena runs until June 2025, so Real will hope to get him for significantly less than the €72.3m he is rated at by Football Transfers' in-house algorithm is they bid for him one summer out from that.
