Bayern Munich have put a €40 million transfer tag on the head of winger Serge Gnabry, who has attracted interest from Arsenal and Barcelona this summer.

Bayern are hopeful that they will be able to sign Senegal star Sadio Mane from Liverpool, with reports suggesting that they are hopeful of being able to do a deal around the €30m mark.

With just a year left to run on the player’s contract, FCB appear to be willing to sell in order to avoid him leaving as a free agent in 12 months.

That leaves Gnabry available for a very tempting price for any suitors, although any transfer could be complicated by Robert Lewandowski’s situation. The Poland star is pushing to leave Bayern this summer, with Barcelona to the forefront of that transfer race.

The Catalan side, meanwhile, have also been linked with a possible deal with Gnabry if Ousmane Dembele departs the club. The France international is out of contract at the end of June, which should free up a large portion of their wage budget, should he leave as a free agent. This looks probable, with Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, on alert as PSG waver over the value of completing a deal.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are also interested in the possibility of re-signing Gnabry, who was on their books from 2012-2016. Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of the Germany international star has been complicated by their failure to qualify for the Champions League, which is thought to be a prerequisite of any club that the 26-year-old might move to this summer.

The winger is coming off a career-best year in terms of Bundesliga goals, having scored 13 in the competition and laid a further six on.

The €40m valuation that Bayern have given Gnabry corresponds strongly to FootballTransfers’ valuation of €43m for the winger, whose value peaked in January 2021 at €56m.
