Manchester United have had a busy summer transfer window with plenty of names joining and leaving, and that’s set to continue into the final days of the transfer window.

There have been some big names departing, either at the end of their contracts last season, permanent transfers or on temporary loan spells away, and that has helped them financially.

Players such as Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and more recently, Eric Bailly, amongst others, have all left the club in recent weeks as Erik ten Hag wished to trim the squad down.

This has helped the club cut down on their wage bill massively, and they’ve saved up a big amount that they’re now able to use elsewhere to improve the squad.

Man Utd have saved big

None of the players that left the club over the summer were first-team regulars or part of Ten Hag’s plans, and that is where this has proven to be good for Manchester United.

Paul Pogba ideally would’ve been, but his injury issues – especially over his last season – meant that he rarely featured and he helped to saving the biggest amount.

In total, out of all the players that left, they took up £62 million in annual wages, and that can now be invested elsewhere in the squad.

Pogba was the fifth-highest earner in the squad last season at £15 million a season, while Edinson Cavani was just behind him at £13 million.

Juan Mata rarely played last season apart from the last few matches when there was little to compete for, and he used to earn £8.3 million per season.

Dean Henderson used to earn £5.2 million and he’s now on loan at Nottingham Forest, while Alex Telles, who used to earn £4.8 million, is now on loan at La Liga side Sevilla.

Bailly, who only just completed a loan move to Marseille, used to earn £4.3 million a season despite spending plenty of time on the treatment table, and he could complete a permanent move to France next season.

In all, trimming the squad and getting rid of fringe players was a core goal for Manchester United, and they have done fairly well in that…now, they need to add to have a capable squad.
