Manchester United have been told by a former player that a particular selection choice of Erik ten Hag should be a sackable offence.

The pressure on the Dutchman has been ramped up to eleven. Despite a summer of lavish spending, Man Utd have looked anything but impressive this season. Narrow wins against Nottingham Forest and Wolves are the only successes the Red Devils have thus far achieved, with losses to Tottenham and Arsenal dampening the mood at Old Trafford.

With the club also embroiled in controversy off the pitch with the cases of Mason Greenwood and Antony and the not-quite-so-serious case of Jadon Sancho, who had a public spat with Ten Hag after the Arsenal game, some are beginning to worry about what is going on behind the scenes at the Man Utd.

As if that wasn't enough, questions are now also being asked about Erik ten Hag's selection choices.

Picking Martial is a sackable offence

Summer signing Rasmus Hojlund, the number nine United had been crying out for, made his long-awaited debut against Arsenal after arriving from Atalanta with a back injury. Despite Ten Hag's pre-match assertions that the Dane was fit to start, he only came off the bench and it was Anthony Martial who got the nod ahead of him.

This decision has now been questioned by former Man Utd defender Paul Parker. "If he [Hojlund] doesn't start against Brighton, then all fans will want Erik ten Hag fired, and it would almost be justified," he told SpilXperten. "It wouldn't make any sense if he started on the bench."

"Martial shouldn't even be on the bench," Parker continued. "There must be a youth player who is better who can sit on the bench, and Hojlund can be the first striker. All Manchester United fans are fed up with seeing a player with a lousy attitude, who always sulks and complains, and it's a blessing that Man Utd finally has an attacker who plays with enthusiasm."

"I actually don't agree that you can't already judge Rasmus Hojlund based on the minutes he had against Arsenal. You certainly can because he made a huge difference when he was substituted in. It was the best thing that could happen to him, that he had to replace Martial because he knew he couldn't do worse than him."
