Lionel Messi was almost involved in a major car crash.

The superstar, who has now completed his move from Paris Saint Germain to Inter Miami, was being filmed by fans when the car he was in jumped a red light after a bystander approached the vehicle for an autograph.

The distraction meant that the car went into a junction where multiple cars were coming to. They all narrowly missed the player, before heading off.

The Argentine skipper is preparing to make his debut for his new side after joining the club from PSG.

He brought his drawn-out transfer saga to an end when he announced his intention to join the Fort Lauderdale-based club last month. Rumours about a potential return to Barcelona or a big-money move to Saudi giants Al-Hilal had to be put to bed.

Miami's new star

Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has revealed that it took three years of negotiations to land Messi. Indeed, ever since the creation of the franchise in 2018, the expectation was that they would eventually bring the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner to MLS.

According to journalist Gaston Edul, it is only a matter of time before Messi officially signs his contract and has his first training session with his new club.

Miami fans will yet need to show a bit of patience before they can finally watch the World Cup winner in action, however.

Fellow new recruit Sergio Busquets is expected to arrive in Miami on July 15 and it is believed that he will also be presented at the July 16 unveiling. The following day, Messi is set to hold his first press conference, and on Tuesday, Miami will allow journalists to be present during training to watch the Argentine.
