Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd ON BRINK of major signing

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Wolves star Matheus Cunha is on the brink of joining Manchester United.
United and Wolves have been locked in negotiations over recent days and Romano says that talks are now at an advanced stage.
The Red Devils have reportedly agreed to trigger the €74 million release clause included in Cunha’s current contract at Molineux, although they will be forced to pay an additional €6m in add-ons.
Man Utd could pay a total of €80m to sign Cunha, if add-on clauses are met, and Arsenal’s reported attempt to hijack the deal has seemingly failed.
What did Romano say?
“The situation is exactly the same as it was 10 days ago. Man Utd are in very positive talks with Matheus Cunha. Very good conversations, discussing the details with the player. Then they will be able to meet Wolves and discuss the payment structure of the release clause,” Romano said.
“Man Utd wanted to go with Cunha and the conversation is ongoing. They’re absolutely in active conversations.”
Cunha has scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances for Wolves so far this season, and he is expected to be deployed as an attacking midfielder in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford next year.
Cunha’s future has been in doubt for some time despie signing a new contract until 2029 in February.
The 25-year-old has also endured some disciplinary problems of late, frustrated by Wolves’ struggles near the bottom of the Premier League.

Cunha at Wolves
Cunha joined Wolves in 2023 from Atletico Madrid for €50m after a successful six month loan spell at the club in the second half of the 2022-23 season.
He has since developed into one of the best players in the Premier League, scoring 31 goals in 68 games for the club.
Cunha began his career at Sion in Switzerland, earning a move to Leipzig and then Hertha Berlin, where he really exploded.
His performances at Hertha earned him a €30m move to Atletico Madrid in 2021 but he struggled in La Liga and was offloaded just 18 months later to Wolves.
At Wolves he has impressed many of the Premier League and Europe’s biggest clubs.
He has won 13 caps for Brazil and scored one goal.
