Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dropped a hint that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may yet be tempted into the January transfer market by a player that he “appreciates”.

Klopp has repeatedly stated that he is happy with Liverpool’s squad and that he is not in a rush to make any signings, despite adverse form in the Premier League.

The Reds are presently ninth in the standings, 10 points off the Champions League places and under pressure from their supporters to be active in the transfer window.

In particular, the midfield has been an area singled out for needing investment – and Romano believes that there could be late movement with regards Morocco World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat, although not necessarily to Anfield.

"I was told that Liverpool never approached Fiorentina,” he told WettFreunde. “I'm sure they are following the player. I'm sure Jurgen Klopp appreciates him but as far as I know, Atletico Madrid was the club that really made an effort for Amrabat.

“Atletico Madrid and Simeone really like the player but the problem is Fiorentina. Fiorentina have publicly stated that the player is not for sale.

“They want more than €40 million to sell him so it's not an easy deal but something could happen in the last few days of the market.”

Liverpool to do more January business?

Cody Gakpo has already signed for Liverpool this month

Liverpool’s transfer policy has traditionally been to sit tight in the January window, although they successfully pushed a move through for PSV winger Cody Gakpo earlier this month. He had previously been strongly linked with a switch to Manchester United, so this was seen as a major coup.

Although the Reds moved for Colombia international winger Luis Diaz last January, they were prompted into action on that occasion because they had already earmarked him as a summer signing and were fearful that he would go elsewhere.

With Ambrabat, there appears to be less urgency to get a deal done, despite Liverpool’s dire league position.
