Arsenal willing to sell €65m star on one condition

Arsenal will reportedly only sell Viktor Gyokeres in 2027 if they have identified a “top-class replacement” amid rumours that he could leave the club next year.

The Sweden international scored 21 goals in 55 games during his debut season with Mikel Arteta’s side, but he lost his starting XI place to Kai Havertz in the final few weeks of the campaign and he has been unable to force his way back into contention in 2026-27.

Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal for €65.8 million, was an unused substitute in their first two Premier League fixtures of the new season, while he made a late cameo appearance versus Chelsea on Sunday afternoon after Havertz had levelled proceedings in the first-half.

The Germany attacker has now scored three goals in Arsenal’s four matches across all competitions so far this term, and Gyokeres will likely be forced to play a back-up role for the foreseeable future, with Havertz currently undroppable based on his recent form.

As a result, the 28-year-old has been linked with a surprise Arsenal exit, although TEAMtalk claim that a sale will only be permitted if the Gunners have lined up a “top-class” striker to replace him.

Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez remains Arsenal’s primary target in attack, although the north London giants were unable to persuade him to join the club over the summer and they may struggle to sign him again next year, especially if Barcelona ramp up talks over a deal.

Ivan Toney is reportedly on Arsenal’s radar too, although he is seen as a like-for-like replacement for Gyokeres, rather than an upgrade on Havertz. As a result, the club seem highly unlikely to bring in the Al-Ahli forward next year.

Will Viktor Gyokeres leave Arsenal?

At 28 years old, it would come as no surprise if Gyokeres is keen to explore his options if he continues to play a secondary role at Arsenal for the remainder of this season.

However, he will still receive significant game time as Arteta’s side look to compete on multiple fronts, and this could persuade him to stay.

As for Arsenal, they could be content to stick with Havertz as their preferred option through the middle, with the Germany international currently one of the most in-form attackers in world football thanks to his electric start to the new campaign.

With limited options available on the market, Arsenal may be tempted to retain faith in Havertz as their first-choice striker, with Gyokeres filling in where required across all competitions.
