Rumours had suggested that Vitek could return to Old Trafford this summer to become Senne Lammens’ back-up, but he has no intention of remaining at the club and he confirmed his desire to leave following Man Utd’s 1-0 defeat to Wrexham in their first pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Vitek told BBC Sport: “I'm ready to go somewhere again and hopefully be number one.”

When asked whether he wants to leave on a permanent deal or depart Man Utd on another loan move, Vitek replied: "I'm ready for both, to be fair. It depends on what the club wants and also on the options.

“There has been a few interests on the table. We're hoping to choose the best one and hopefully it will happen soon.”

Vitek joined Man Utd from Czech side Olomouc in 2020 and he has spent the last three seasons away on loan - at Accrington Stanley, Blau-Weiss Linz and Bristol City. He is yet to make his competitive debut for Man Utd and it’s understood that a sale will be considered by the Red Devils as his current contract is due to expire in 2028.

Analysis: What transfer business will Man Utd complete before the end of the window?

Man Utd have already signed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow so far this summer, but they are still expected to bolster Michael Carrick’s squad with further additions before Deadline Day.

Another central midfielder is wanted following Manuel Ugarte’s injury at the World Cup, while Man Utd are also keen to sign a new left-back and a new left winger as they prepare for their first Champions League campaign since 2022-23.

In regards to outgoings, the Red Devils have already sold Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli for €44m, and Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia have all left upon the expiration of their contracts. Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford may both be offloaded on permanent deals over the coming weeks, although they are far from guaranteed to depart.
