Marcus Rashford rejects lucrative transfer offers as Man Utd exit stalls
Marcus Rashford has turned down multiple lucrative contract offers to leave Manchester United this summer, according to a reliable source.
Rashford had hoped to stay with Barcelona on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell last season, yet the Catalan side were not prepared to pay his €30 million release fee due to the finances involved.
He will return to Man Utd after the World Cup and will be assessed by Michael Carrick for involvement in the first team, but the overriding belief is that United want to sell him due to his sizeable salary, which is among the biggest in the squad.
Rashford rejects big bids
Rashford does not appear likely to leave easily. According to The Athletic, the England star has already turned down several offers, including those which offer better pay than his current terms.
Aston Villa and Tottenham have both been credited with an interest within the Premier League but are not cited as clubs that have directly made contact with him.
Indeed, the size of the offers hinted at suggests that those suitors concretely interested in Rashford come from the free-spending Saudi Pro League.
Man Utd and Rashford in a game of transfer poker
Manchester United are entering a new era with Rashford, who has been out of favour at Old Trafford since a falling out with former manager Ruben Amorim in late 2024.
The player is out of contract in 2028 yet appears to be in control of the situation. He made it clear last summer that he would not be pushed out of the club to a team he did not wish to join, while his lucrative contract means that it will be difficult for United to simply freeze him out for an extended period of time.
Indeed, sending a message that Rashford is not in their first-team plans would only drive his market value down.
His current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at a career-low £29.5 million (€34.7m) while United are hopeful they will be able to raise more than £25.5m (€30m) from any sale.
This is why they were unwilling to negotiate Rashford’s release clause with Barcelona, who had retained an interest in him but not at the previously agreed terms.
Rashford is in command
Neither Rashford nor United will be content with the current situation. The player clearly wants a more important role within the team than he is being given, while the club do not think he will provide them with value for money.
However, Rashford is in a position where he can wait the situation out and turn down offers that don’t suit him, knowing that he has the cushion of his Man Utd salary as insurance. Indeed, with the prospect of being frozen out at Old Trafford again apparently slim as Carrick seems to have no intention of starting a war with the academy product, he will surely get chances in the season ahead.
