Liverpool are looking to hijack PSG's proposed signing of AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche.

The Reds are in the market for major attacking reinforcements this summer. Club legend Mohamed Salah has departed on a free transfer, and last season showed that the left wing position is a major problem.

Cody Gakpo endured a very difficult season and could potentially leave the club, while 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha was not fully trusted by then-coach Arne Slot. That could change under Andoni Iraola, but it is nevertheless clear that Liverpool need to make attacking signings.

Indeed, the Basque has admitted as much, so it is no wonder that the Anfield club are scouring the market for suitable targets. RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is believed to be a priority option for them, but he is keen on a move to PSG.

So far, though, PSG have been reluctant to meet Leipzig's asking price of more than €120 million, which had the knock-on effect of blocking a potential exit of Bradley Barcola, who is also a key target for Liverpool.

Liverpool open Akliouche talks

Another player to have been linked with the 2025 Premier League champions, primarily by the French press, is Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche. Like Diomande, however, he looked destined to join PSG.

The Ligue 1 champions have reportedly already seen three bids rejected for the 24-year-old France international. Monaco are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of €50m.

PSG have yet to crack the €40m mark with their proposals, which has resulted in an impasse, despite the player's unambiguous desire to join the reigning European champions.

This deadlock has now emboldened Liverpool to try their luck. According to Sky Sports, the Reds have launched an official enquiry for Akliouche to sound out the feasibility of a deal.

The outlet does not provide much information on Liverpool's approach, but it does corroborate that PSG have so far failed to land the winger despite making "several" bids.

Akliouche, who opted to represent France over Algeria, has 10 senior caps to his name. He made 43 appearances for Monaco in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists. Like Salah, the 24-year-old is a left-footed right-winger.
