Chelsea handed big chance to sell one of their squad players - for a profit

Chelsea want between €41million and €46m (£35m to £40m) to sell in-demand striker Liam Delap this summer, according to The i Paper.

The i Paper understands Nottingham Forest, Everton and Leeds United are all keen to sign Delap ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

And the same outlet claims all three clubs are aware of Chelsea’s asking price as Xabi Alonso’s side look to generate further revenue from selling players.

The Blues have so far brought in just over €132m (£113m) from offloading Andrey Santos, Marc Cucurella and Tyrique George this summer.

Santos moved to Manchester United for €56.3m (£48m), Cucurella to Real Madrid for €55m (£47m) and George to Everton for €21m (£18m).

Should Chelsea receive between €41m and €46m for Delap, they would earn a small profit on the €35m (£30m) they paid Ipswich Town for the forward last June.

Delap struggled for form and fitness last season, scoring just one Premier League goal in 28 appearances for the west London club.

He moved to Stamford Bridge off the back of scoring an impressive 12 league goals in 37 appearances for Ipswich in 2024-25.

Before choosing to join Chelsea, various sources understand Delap received offers from Forest, Everton, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Why Forest, Everton and Leeds want Delap

Forest are looking to back new manager Oliver Glasner in the transfer market, with The Telegraph confirming Delap is among their targets.

Glasner was named Forest head coach on 6 July, securing an immediate return to management after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

The 51-year-old is regarded as Palace’s greatest-ever manager after winning the FA Cup, UEFA Conference League and Community Shield during his time at Selhurst Park.

Everton meanwhile are believed to be in the market for a target man - like Delap - who is a better fit for David Moyes’ system.

Thierno Barry and Beto scored 18 goals between them for the Toffees last season, but they both struggle with their backs to goal.

And the i Paper claims Leeds want Delap to provide competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored a remarkable 14 league goals last term.

Speculation regarding Delap’s future coincides with The Athletic reporting on Tuesday that Chelsea are close to signing Brighton and Hove Albion hitman Danny Welbeck.

The same publication claims Brighton have granted the 35-year-old permission to undergo a medical with Chelsea ahead of joining on a two-year deal.

Welbeck scored 13 league goals last season as the Seagulls qualified for the UEFA Conference League by finishing eighth in the Premier League.
