Newcastle United are adamant Bruno Guimaraes is not for sale amid growing frustration over Arsenal’s interest in their captain, according to The Chronicle.

BBC Sport understands Arsenal are pushing hard to sign Guimaraes after learning the midfielder has told Newcastle he wants to leave this summer.

That came after an earlier report from the same outlet which claimed Arsenal had expressed a willingness - via the Brazil star’s representatives - to sign him for around €70million (£60m).

However, BBC Sport also understands Newcastle have had no official contact from Arsenal regarding Guimaraes, with the Magpies unwilling to sanction a sale.

Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, and Eddie Howe’s side do not want to lose another key player in the same window.

So much so that The Chronicle understands Newcastle officials are annoyed over speculation claiming a certain figure will be enough for Arsenal to land Guimaraes.

The same publication claims the St. James’ Park club have placed no valuation on Guimaraes, who has two years left on the contract, despite his desire to leave the club.

Guimaraes has developed a reputation as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Ligue 1 side Lyon in January 2022.

The 28-year-old has scored 31 goals in 195 appearances for the Toon, helping them win their first domestic trophy for 70 years with victory over Liverpool in the 2025 Carabao Cup final.

Premier League champions Arsenal are keen to sign Guimaraes as they look to bolster their midfield ahead of the 2026-27 season, according to The Athletic.

The same outlet claims the Gunners are desperate to reduce the workload on Declan Rice by signing a flexible midfielder who - like the England international - can operate as a No. 6 and a No. 8.

Rice has featured in five of England’s six World Cup games this summer, while the 27-year-old also made 55 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal last season.

Arsenal have also been linked with Lille and Morocco talent Ayyoub Bouaddi but The Athletic understands Manchester City are pushing hard to sign the 18-year-old, whose value may have risen to €100m (£85m) following Tonali and Elliot Anderson’s summer transfers.

Tonali left Newcastle for Tottenham in a deal worth €117m (£100m) including add-ons, while Man City signed Anderson from Nottingham Forest for €136m (£116m).
