Arsenal Transfer News Today: Guimaraes close to move as talks accelerate over €82m deal
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Bruno Guimaraes, Alex Scott and Christos Tzolis.
Exclusive: Guimaraes close to Arsenal transfer
The Gunners have been pursuing Brazil international midfielder Bruno for several weeks, with sources revealing that only the finishing touches need to be confirmed before the deal is complete.
The 28-year-old has made clear that he wants to move to the Emirates Stadium, and FootballTransfers sources have indicated that he will get his wish.
The Emirates side have been fighting to strike a balance on transfer fees, allowing them to snap up the former Lyon midfielder while also signing a top left-sided forward.
This was a major factor in the delay of their bid to Newcastle for Bruno, and indeed it is not yet clear how much they will pay for the all-action South American star.
Arsenal ready to submit formal offer for Guimaraes
The BBC report that Arsenal are set to make an offer of £70 million (€82m) for Guimaraes to Newcastle, with talks having accelerated in recent days.
However, Newcastle are likely to rebuff the offer, with it falling far below the Magpies’ valuation, if they even consider selling their captain.
According to The Chronicle, the fee has been described as a ‘non-starter’ and Newcastle are growing tired of third parties trying to unsettle Guimaraes.
Newcastle are close to signing midfielder Aladji Bamba from Monaco but the 20-year-old is not considered a replacement for Guimaraes, while the Brazilian international has not handed in a formal transfer and is not looking to force a move at this time.
Tzolis deal confirmed
Tzolis has joined the Gunners in a €40million (£34.1m) deal, though the club have said the fee is undisclosed.
The length of contract is also unknown, with Arsenal having announced Tzolis has put pen to paper on a “long-term contract”.
Tzolis becomes Arsenal’s third summer signing following the earlier arrivals of defender Piero Hincapie and goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Scott prefers Arsenal move
Scott has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window, with Chelsea having a €75million (£64m) bid turned down by Bournemouth, who insist the midfielder is not for sale.
Arsenal are believed to have had an enquiry rejected by the Cherries, while Manchester United are also admirers of the 22-year-old but The Mirror understands Scott would prefer to join the Gunners ahead of their Premier League counterparts.
However, the same publication claims the former Bristol City man has reservations over the amount of minutes he would be afforded.
