Manchester United have been given a major boost in their pursuit of a new left-back after a sensational report claiming that Lewis Hall wants to leave Newcastle after an apparent falling out with Eddie Howe.

Hall is one of United’s top targets at left-back this summer and Michael Carrick’s side are monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation after he was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Despite being one of Newcastle’s strongest performers of the season and being capped twice this year, Tuchel opted to pick Djed Spence and Nico O’Reilly as his left-backs over Hall.

And, according to The Sun, this has led to tension at St James’ Park, with Hall said to be ‘blaming’ Howe for his failure to make the squad after he was used out-of-position at right-back in April against Nottingham Forest in a 1-1 draw in which he struggled in.

Hall was then substituted at half-time in the next match versus Bournemouth before starting the next two games on the bench, leading to an apparent ‘row’ with Howe which has led Newcastle to fear the pair’s working relationship has broken down.

However, Newcastle sources have ‘strongly denied’ the reports and insist that Hall left for the summer on excellent terms with Howe, with the relationship described as ‘very good’ and the suggestion of an argument dismissed.

Any suggestion of Hall’s discontent at Newcastle would be music to United’s ears, with the Red Devils seeing the youngster as the perfect successor to Luke Shaw and ready to act if an opportunity arises.

Hall has three years remaining on his contract at Newcastle would demand a substantial fee for his services, with the plan to tie their wonderkid down to new terms at the earliest opportunity.

Instead, Antonee Robinson could emerge as a target for United, according to Sky Sports, after the departure of manager Marco Silva to Benfica.

Robinson has long-been a target for Carrick’s men and the 28-year-old’s future could be in doubt once he returns from World Cup duty with the United States of America.
