Confirmed: Liverpool in advanced talks to complete Iraola's first signing
Liverpool are in advanced talks to re-sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Patrik Farkas four years after he left the club.
The Hungary youth international spent two years at Anfield before departing for Blackburn at U16 level, but he is now close to securing a move back to the Reds as a free agent this summer.
The 19-year-old’s contract at Ewood Park will expire in July and Liverpool are locked in negotiations over a Bosman move when the summer window opens, as confirmed by Anfield Watch.
Farkas is in talks to sign a two-year contract at Liverpool, which would be signed on 1 July, and it’s expected that he will join the Reds’ U21 side if a deal is finalised.
Farkas’ younger brother, Erik, caught the eye for Liverpool U18s last season and he was recently rewarded with his first scholarship contract at the club. Patrik, meanwhile, made 10 appearances in the Premier League 2 for Blackburn last campaign, and his only goal of the season came against Watford U21s in the Premier League Cup.

Patrik Farkas to become first signing of Andoni Iraola era at Liverpool
If a deal for Farkas is finalised, he will become Liverpool’s first signing since the appointment of Andoni Iraola, who was formally announced as their new head coach on Thursday.
The ex-Bournemouth boss, who guided the Cherries into the Europa League via a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season, has signed a two-year contract at Anfield, with the club turning to him following the sacking of Arne Slot.
Iraola caught the eye during an impressive three-year stint at Bournemouth and he will be tasked with guiding Liverpool back into Premier League title contention after a disappointing 2025-26 season, in which they finished fifth.
While Farkas could become the Reds’ first signing under Iraola, he certainly won’t be the last, with the club determined to sign at least one new forward and a new defender.
Real Madrid-bound Ibrahima Konate is one of three key players leaving on a Bosman deal this summer, alongside Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson, while goalkeeper Alisson Becker has also been heavily linked with an exit amid significant transfer interest from Serie A giants Juventus.
As a result, Liverpool will be required to sign a number of reinforcements during the 2026 summer transfer window, although they have already signed Konate’s replacement, with Stade Rennais centre-back Jeremy Jacquet arriving in July after a deal was finalised earlier this year.
