Iraola to tear up €15m Alisson contract agreement in first act as Liverpool manager
New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has walked in the Anfield door to an immediate problem, with Alisson Becker still asking the club to green light his prospective transfer to Juventus.
The Brazil international goalkeeper has already agreed personal terms with the Serie A club, but no deal has yet been struck over a transfer fee.
Liverpool have so far resisted allowing Alisson to return to Serie A, where he previously starred with Roma.
Alisson pushing for Juventus transfer
Alisson has had an agreement in place with Juventus over his contract in Turin “for months”, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport. The 33-year-old has a deal in place worth around €15m over three years.
It indicates that he is still pushing Liverpool to allow him to return to Italy and will be in touch once again with the club’s management to make a last-ditch attempt to force through the deal.
Liverpool have “no intention” of allowing the shot-stopper to leave this summer, however.
The Reds have already had to cope with the loss of a series of senior figures in the dressing room, with Ibrahima Konate the latest to announce he will leave as a free agent. The France international joins Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah in departing Anfield this summer.
Iraola’s appointment as Liverpool boss will not change this situation, and Alisson will be told that he is going nowhere. Indeed, the 43-year-old is not likely to have a hands-on approach in terms of transfer policy.
Juventus turn to other Premier League targets
Liverpool’s stubborn insistence that Alisson is going nowhere has forced Juventus to change their approach in the transfer market after long setting their sights on the South American.
Juve are still focusing on the Premier League for their next goalkeeper, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez the latest to be associated with the Turin side. He is valued at around €20 million and has a wage demand of €6m per year.
Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario is the other player the Bianconeri are seriously considering. He will also cost around €20m but his wage demands are slightly less, coming in between €3-4m, which is thought to be a figure more attractive to Juve.
Vicario is known to want to return to Serie A and had struck a deal with Inter Milan to move to San Siro before the Nerazzurri backed out of a deal. The Italy international is a player Juve have explored signing in the past.
Alisson, meanwhile, is not totally off the table yet, but it seems that Liverpool are ready to issue a decisive ‘no’ in this case.
