Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Man Utd complete signing, Gvardiol offer, Liverpool latest
Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Ederson, Josko Gvardiol and Curtis Jones.
Brighton’s first summer signing officially announced
Brighton & Hove Albion have been one of the best clubs in the transfer market in recent years and they have officially announced the signing of AIK winger Zadok Yohanna, beating Chelsea and Newcastle United to his signature.
“Remember this name because more than four clubs wanted him. Top Premier League clubs and German clubs were all interested, but Zadok Yohanna, the Nigerian winger, will join Brighton from AIK in Sweden. The deal was completed today for a transfer fee of £21.5 million paid to AIK,” transfer expert Romano told his YouTube channel.
“The agreement between Brighton and the player is now also complete. Several clubs approached him, including Newcastle United and Chelsea. There were many opportunities on the table, but Brighton moved decisively and secured the deal for Zadok Yohanna.
“It is a really exciting signing and a player to watch closely. Genuine, exciting wingers are becoming increasingly difficult to find in the market, and Brighton have signed one.”

Mason Greenwood deal
Marseille forward Mason Greenwood is expected to leave the club this summer, and his former employers Manchester United therefore stand to earn a sizable fee thanks to a sell-on clause they included in the deal.
“My understanding is that the transfer fee Olympique Marseille will demand to sell Greenwood this summer is €55 million plus €5 million in add-ons. This is the starting price and the valuation Marseille have set. We will see whether that figure can be negotiated,” Romano said.
"Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi announced and confirmed yesterday that there is already an agreement in place with Greenwood on a four-year contract. Everything is agreed with the player, but the move still depends on the election outcome and an agreement with Marseille. Fenerbahce are being very aggressive in their pursuit of Greenwood.
“On the other side, Roma remain interested. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini is a huge admirer of Greenwood, and Roma are still trying to make the deal happen if they can reach an agreement with Marseille and if the Fenerbahce move does not materialise. This remains a situation to follow closely.”
Romano added: “Remember that Man Utd have a significant sell-on clause included in the deal. This is not a small percentage. Man Utd would receive substantial money from any future transfer, which is why they are monitoring the situation very carefully. It could provide an important financial boost.”
Ederson to join Man Utd
Man Utd are also set for a busy summer window of their own and they have now completed the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, as per Romano.
He said: "Man Utd have formally completed their first signing of the summer. The 'here we go' arrived a few days ago, but now all documents have been signed between Man Utd and Atalanta for Ederson. The Brazilian midfielder is officially a Man Utd player from today.
“What remains now is for Ederson to travel to England after his holidays, complete his formal medical and sign his contract. I am told that an initial unofficial medical already took place with Atalanta's authorisation and everything was positive. The agreement between Ederson and Man Utd has been in place for months, as the player only wanted this move.
“The agreement between the clubs has now also been completed in writing. In terms of an official announcement and seeing Ederson holding the Man Utd shirt, we need a little more patience while the final formalities are completed. However, all paperwork is now signed and Man Utd have secured their first midfield signing of the summer.
“Man Utd are not stopping there. They want at least one more midfielder and work is already taking place behind the scenes. After completing the Ederson deal, the club will continue to push for further additions in that area.”
Federico Chiesa and Curtis Jones to depart Liverpool?
Liverpool are in the midst of a major squad overhaul and new boss Andoni Iraola may also be unable to call upon the services of Federico Chiesa or Curtis Jones next season.
“Turning to Liverpool, Federico Chiesa spoke in Italy today and made it clear that he wants to play more consistently. The expectation remains that Chiesa will leave Liverpool this summer,” Romano admitted.
“Chiesa explained that he will join Liverpool's pre-season tour in the United States and speak with the new manager to better understand his situation. However, he was also clear that he needs regular football. For that reason, opportunities could emerge for him to leave the club.
“Those close to the player believe this could genuinely be the moment for Chiesa to move on. He came close to leaving in January and was also linked with a departure last summer. Now the expectation is that he could finally say goodbye to Liverpool.”
Romano continued: “Chiesa also indirectly confirmed a situation I have been discussing with you. He was asked about Curtis Jones and interest from Inter. Inter are very interested in signing the Liverpool midfielder and discussions between the clubs are ongoing.
“Inter's valuation is around €20 million, while Liverpool are looking for more than €30 million. A compromise could potentially involve bonuses or a sell-on clause, but there is still a significant gap between the clubs.
“The player is open to a move and Chiesa revealed that Curtis Jones has even asked him what life is like in Italy. Chiesa added that Jones would be an excellent signing for Inter. This is a transfer story that will be very interesting to follow in the coming weeks.”
Real Madrid to appoint Jurgen Klopp?
Real Madrid are searching for a new manager and while an agreement has been reached to appoint Jose Mourinho, rumours of a deal for Jurgen Klopp continue to persist.
“At Real Madrid, Sunday is election day. Florentino Perez is facing Enrique Riquelme, who recently announced that club legend Raul Gonzalez Blanco would become sporting director if his campaign is successful,” Romano said.
“Riquelme also stated that he would contact Jurgen Klopp about becoming the manager of his Real Madrid project. This is not a surprise because I previously reported that Klopp was the coach he wanted for the role.
“However, only a few minutes later, Klopp's agent denied the possibility. He described the rumours as annoying and stated that Klopp has no intention of coaching any club at this stage of his career. According to his representative, Klopp is very happy with his position within the Red Bull group.
“My understanding remains that I would not be surprised if Jurgen Klopp eventually became a serious candidate for the Germany national team job. This would only become relevant if Julian Nagelsmann were to leave after the World Cup, which remains a very big hypothetical situation dependent on many factors.
“People close to the German Football Association believe Klopp would be a candidate they would strongly consider if Nagelsmann departed. At present, however, there is complete trust in Nagelsmann and the focus is entirely on achieving success at the World Cup.”
Real Madrid chase Josko Gvardiol
Finally, Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol has been linked with a summer exit in recent weeks, and Real Madrid have joined Barcelona in the race to sign him.
“We have already reported that Gvardiol is viewed as an ideal profile as Real Madrid continue to assess defensive reinforcements. At the same time, Man City have been working proactively on the situation,” Romano revealed.
“Since the end of March and the beginning of April, Man City have had a new contract proposal on the table for Gvardiol. The decision now rests entirely with the player. He can choose whether to sign a new deal immediately or wait before making a final decision.
"Gvardiol currently has a contract offer from Man City in his hands, and this is a situation we will continue to monitor closely.”
