West Ham United have reportedly informed Chelsea they want to keep Jarrod Bowen this summer amid significant interest from Xabi Alonso’s side.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a summer transfer following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship and Chelsea are understood to be the frontrunners for his signature as they look to secure the signing of a versatile forward during the upcoming window.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United have also been tipped to pursue a deal for Bowen this summer, and although West Ham are yet to receive a formal offer for their club captain, it has been reported that Chelsea are weighing up an approach.

The Blues have already finalised the summer signings of Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha, from Sporting CP and Strasbourg respectively, but they remain in the market for additional attackers amid the uncertain futures of Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap and Alejandro Garnacho.

At 29 years old, Bowen would be the oldest player Chelsea have signed since their first transfer window under their BlueCo ownership, however the club have signalled their intention to move away from their youth-centric strategy this summer and the England forward is firmly on their radar.

Bowen has registered at least 20 league goal contributions in four of his last five seasons at West Ham, and with Chelsea eager to sign players who are proven at the highest level, their interest in his signature makes perfect sense.

However, The Sun claim that West Ham have told Bowen’s suitors they want to keep him this summer.

It’s reported that while Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will need to raise around €120 million through player sales this summer, they are hopeful they won’t need to offload Bowen and they have communicated this to Chelsea, among others.

What has Jarrod Bowen said?

Despite interest from Chelsea, and other top Premier League clubs, Bowen hinted that he wants to stay at West Ham in the Championship after their relegation was confirmed last month.

“Ultimately, this season we haven’t been good enough and we’ve paid the price,” the Hammers captain told Sky Sports.

“I’m under contract here. I’ve been here for six-and-a-half years. I’ve had some really high moments and this is a low moment that will outweigh everything.

“There’s going to be rumours, there’s going to be talk. Ultimately, what I see is getting this club back in the Premier League because that is where it deserves to be.

“This is a really, really low moment, but we have to bounce back because there’s no other way. This is a really difficult moment. You never know what the future holds. For me, I want to get this club back in the Premier League. Right now our vision is to do that.”
