Chelsea Transfer News Today: Blues told to block Cucurella exit after Real Madrid deal
All the latest Chelsea transfer news in one place, including updates on Marc Cucurella, Jarrod Bowen and Jordan Pickford.
Real Madrid agree to sign Cucurella
Reports had emerged this weekend that Cucurella believed his time at Stamford Bridge was coming to an end, with Chelsea open to his sale for the right price after missing out on European football for next season.
However, despite the links to Atletico and Barcelona, Real Madrid have swooped in to seal the deal, which will be formally ratified after Cucurella’s participation in the 2026 World Cup, according to Romano.
The Athletic reporter David Ornstein has also confirmed the fee to be €60 million, with €55m up front and €5m in add-ons, with paperwork and a long-term contract expected to be finalised next week.
Chelsea handed blow in Bowen race
Chelsea may have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Jarrod Bowen after West Ham United shareholder Daniel Kretinsky said the club do not need to sell their best players "for financial reasons" this summer.
Bowen has been linked with a move away from the Hammers following their relegation from the Premier League last season, with The Guardian claiming Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are keen on his services.
“We have a very credible strategy,” Kretinsky told The Times. “We don’t need to sell the players for financial reasons. We are doing this to make sure we are promoted back to the Premier League immediately. That is our only goal.
"Key players are waiting for us. They want to see there is a real chance of keeping the squad together. What matters is funding, strategy and consistency. We have spoken to all of them. They need to see that our project is real and serious. Promotion is our only goal."
Pickford told to join Chelsea
Chelsea have been told to sign Jordan Pickford as their new goalkeeper, with former England striker Teddy Sheringham believing the Everton star ‘ticks all the boxes’ to thrive at Stamford Bridge.
"So there's still time for Pickford to, dare I say this to the Everton fans, to a bigger club in the top six, competing for the big titles,” Sheringham told Boyle Sports. “There is still time for him to do that but he's obviously enjoying what he's doing now, and I'm sure it’s the question that’s been put to him time and time again over the last few years.
"If he wanted to go, I'm sure David Moyes wouldn't stand in his way because of the service that he has given Everton, and I would understand if he wanted to go on and further his career.
“Chelsea need a top class goalkeeper, and Pickford would tick every box for what they’re looking for, without a doubt."
Cole urges Chelsea to block Cucurella deal
Ashley Cole has told Chelsea to block Marc Cucurella’s exit this summer and urged Xabi Alonso to keep hold of his best players.
Speaking prior to the news of Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid, Cole said: “Marc Cucurella is someone you should keep. He’s a top performer.
“I’m not in the dressing room. I don’t know the noise. But if the club want to go forward, you have to keep your top players.
“[Jorrel] Hato has performed well when he’s had the opportunity. But why not keep a top competitive squad to compete? You’re going to be constantly chasing the next one.
“You sell Cucurella, Hato plays, but then you need a solution as a back-up to him, so who will that be?”
