Victor Osimhen: Exit clauses explained as Galatasaray president makes official transfer statement
Chelsea’s long-held ambition to sign Victor Osimhen has taken another twist following a revelation over the Galatasaray striker’s future.
Osimhen moved to the Super Lig side on a permanent basis from Napoli in the summer of 2025 in a deal worth €75 million.
With 17 goals in 26 games for Galatasaray this season, the 27-year-old remains one of the most coveted strikers in world football and continues to be linked with Chelsea but, more prominently, Juventus ahead of the summer transfer window.
‘No Osimhen release clause’
Juventus’ hopes of landing the striker are complicated by an agreement with Napoli made last summer that effectively prevents Serie A clubs from signing Osimhen. A €70m penalty is in place if he moves back to Italy this summer, with this figure falling to €50m next summer. It disappears thereafter.
While the indications are that this is still in place, Galatasaray’s president has confirmed that there is no fixed release clause for the player, meaning the Super Lig club can charge what they like in terms of a transfer fee.
“There is no release clause in Osimhen’s contract,” Dursun Ozbek told Fanatik.
Nevertheless, the Turkish official did add: “He’s a hugely successful player who will serve Galatasaray for many years.”
Galatasaray set Osimhen bar high
Osimhen, if he were to leave Galatasaray this summer, would not go cheaply.
“Maybe on the day we bought him, there was talk of the price being high, but today among football fans, the prevailing idea is that the price we paid for him was cheap and his actual value is much higher,” Ozbek added.
Galatasaray may be a little ambitious in terms of what they can get on the transfer market for Osimhen.
His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €77m, which is not far from his career peak of €81m, which he achieved while at Napoli.
Osimhen, though, has been performing to an exceptional standard on the big stage, scoring seven goals in eight Champions League matches at the rate of a little over one per 100 minutes. Another strong performance in the forthcoming double header against Liverpool will only reinforce the club’s belief that they have a player worth €100m on their books.
What does this mean for Chelsea and Juventus?
Chelsea are set to have a shot at Osimhen this summer if they still want him, with the anti-Serie A club effectively ruling Juventus out of the transfer race until 2028.
However, there are now serious doubts over whether the Blues are willing to spend big on a striker, particularly one who is at the peak of his powers and, therefore, not the signing BlueCo typically make.
Blues boss Liam Rosenior notably praised Joao Pedro on Friday.
Asked if the striker is as good as Erling Haaland, Harry Kane or Kylian Mbappe, he said: “Joao is in that category now. In the two months I've been here, he has consistently shown he is a world‑class striker.
“I wouldn't swap Joao for anyone at this moment - he is showing all the qualities and attributes I want to see.
“The great thing for Joao is his age - he can still improve, and I've already noticed several areas where he can get better. But the level he's operating at now is world class, and it's my job, the club's job and his job to keep him there.”
Between Juventus’ issues with Osimhen’s Serie A clause, Chelsea’s love of Joao Pedro and Galatasaray’s high asking price for the Nigeria star, it will take a significant shift for him to be on the move this summer.
