Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has lost patience with one of his players, who has been advised to make a summer transfer to Everton.

With the summer transfer market looming, Los Blancos are making early decisions about their plans.

Although the contract of Vinicius Junior remains their overriding priority, Madrid have made other calls regarding players they believe lack the level or reliability to make a contribution next season.

One such star is left-back Ferland Mendy. Signed from Lyon in 2019 for €48 million, the 30-year-old France international has dedicated much of his career to Real Madrid, but his time is growing short at the club.

He has only made five appearances all season, having been hampered by muscular problems and pinned to the Alvaro Carreras and Fran Garcia.

Fichajes reports that Real Madrid believe they can no longer rely on him and are willing to sanction a summer sale.

Ferland Mendy to Everton: Why it makes sense

Mendy has been told to seek a move to Everton in the summer by data analytics firm SciSports, which believes that a switch to David Moyes’ side would be an excellent scenario for the France international at this juncture of his career.

SciSports’ Career Advice tool, which ranks potential transfers based on a variety of factors including potential development, game time, playing style and formation, gives Everton a very healthy score of 79.

The belief is that Moyes’ system is excellent for Mendy, with the Merseyside outfit scoring four stars in playing style and five in formation.

Even the fact that Everton only score three stars in playing time should not be considered too much of an issue – Mendy’s injury problems mean that it’s unlikely to be optimal for him to play every match.

On top of this, the challenge of playing in the Premier League is one that the left-back has not faced and could be attractive to him at this point in his career.

Injury concerns allayed

Clearly, the worry for Everton will be Mendy’s injury record. With several different muscular issues having affected his game time at Madrid this season, reservations should be made over how much he can play and, therefore, how much of an impact he can have in David Moyes’ team.

When fit, though, Mendy is still regarded as a high-class operator. SciSports also indicates that he is similar in style to Vitaliy Mykolenko, making him ideal competition for the Ukraine international.

In addition to this, he is a relatively low-cost player. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €8m puts him in a good price range for the Toffees.

Concerns over his wages are legitimate, particularly given his injury track record, but if a pay-as-you-play deal or a clause giving him a bonus after playing 25 or 30 games could be negotiated, then there’s also a substantial upside for the Premier League side.

Carlo Ancelotti and James Rodriguez have both represented Real Madrid and Everton in the recent past, why can’t Mendy do the same?
