Arsenal Transfer News Today: Competition for striker as Atleti plot raid
All the latest Arsenal transfer news in one place, including updates on Julian Alvarez, Nicolo Tresoldi, and Gabriel Martinelli.
Atelti offer Alvarez new contract to stave off Arsenal interest
Atletico Madrid have offered Julian Alvarez a new contract worth up to €10 million per season in order to keep him at the club amid Arsenal’s long-standing interest, according to Marca.
The Gunners have been chasing the ex-Manchester City striker for months now. The Argentine forward is tied for fourth with eight goals with in the Champions League, putting him level with current Man City star Erling Haaland.
His goal contribution record is the same in La Liga and the Champions League, with eight goals and four assists in each. He has made 29 league appearances and 11 in Europe.
With Antoine Griezmann set to leave the club for Orlando City in MLS in the summer, Atleti will be more motivated to hold onto their star forward. Alvarez is the team’s second-highest goalscorer in the league behind Alexander Sorloth, and Diego Simeone will surely want to keep those two together so he can avoid needing to rebuild his front line.
As a result, Atleti is ready to make the 26-year-old Alvarez the club’s highest-paid player.
Atleti in for two Arsenal forwards amid Alvarez speculation
Speaking of Atleti, the club is reportedly eyeing a double swoop for Brazilian duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, according to TeamTalk.
These reports come after Griezmann’s summer departure was confirmed and amid the links between Alvarez and Arsenal.
Arsenal face competition for Tresoldi
Recent reports claimed that Arsenal are in the lead for 21-year-old striker Nicolo Tresoldi, but they face competition from a team often mentioned in the same breath as Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window, Atleti.
Los Rojiblancos see Tresoldi as a potential replacement for Griezmann, according to Fichajes. Arsenal want him as a younger option up top, where he can push Viktor Gyokeres.
Tresoldi has 13 goals in 30 Belgian Pro League appearances this season, including four in his previous three matches. He has 17 goals in 47 matches across all competitions, and he has adjusted to life in Belgium well after his summer transfer form Hannover in his native Germany.
