Arsenal set off Christian Pulisic 'sirens' as deal timeline revealed
AC Milan are determined to restart contract discussions with Christian Pulisic amid rumours that Arsenal could swoop for the USMNT superstar.
The 27-year-old started the season like a house on fire, but the goals and assists have dried up in recent weeks. Fitness issues and a lack of form have come at the wrong time for Pulisic - and not just because there is a World Cup on home soil on the horizon.
It has been claimed that the American wants an improved contract at AC Milan, with his current deal set to expire in 2027, though there is a club option to extend it by a further season.
In early February, reports in Italy asserted that Pulisic had been left frustrated by the lack of urgency from the club to engage in discussions over fresh terms, resulting in speculation that he could look to leave the club this summer.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the former Chelsea forward, while former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has described him as an ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is expected to leave the Reds this summer.
Pulisic contract talks on standby
Calciomercato has now provided an update on the situation and confirmed that discussions over a new deal are currently at a standstill. However, contrary to the claims of Pulisic being frustrated, the report states that the decision to pause the conversation was mutual.
Both parties are said to feel that it would be better to resume talks after the season and the World Cup. Before these negotiations begin, the Rossoneri will "certainly" exercise the one-year extension in Pulisic's deal to give themselves more leverage in the discussions.
Milan agree that Pulisic has earned a sizeable pay increase, and they want to "allay the sirens that have begun to sound loudly from the transfer market" by handing him improved terms.
If the 27-year-old agrees to commit his long-term future to the San Siro club, his new deal would likely run until 2031. He would be in his 30s by the end of the deal, making a return to the Premier League increasingly unlikely.
