PSG and Bayern Munich to battle Premier League giants for €60m English wonderkid
PSG and Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign an English wonderkid attacker, but they will have to fend off interest from the Premier League’s best.
Mateus Mane has become one of the hottest transfer topics in world football in recent weeks thanks to his meteoric rise into Wolverhampton Wanderers’ first team, despite the club looking set for relegation.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, and Man Utd have been linked with the player, but they will have to fight Bayern and the reigning Champions League winners for the player’s signature, according to Fichajes.
Mane has two goals and one assist in 17 Premier League appearances this season, and he scored in consecutive matches at the beginning of January, against West Ham and Everton.
The 18-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in each of his last eight appearances for Wolves. His club are expected to demand between €50 million and €60 million for him.
Why Mane has his pick of Europe’s biggest clubs
Mane appears to have the world at his feet despite Wolves being almost guaranteed to be relegated.
After a torrid stretch with eight goal contributions in eight games for the Wolves under-21s from mid-August to early October, he was brought up to the senior squad. He has not gone back since assisting his side’s goal in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on 13 December, a match in which he was subbed on in the 86th minute.
Since his first time playing the full 90 minutes against Liverpool on 27 December, he has not played fewer than 86 minutes in a Premier League match.
He has earned the faith of manager Rob Edwards. A winger and attacking midfielder, Mane has proven an ability to create for himself and others, and he is not afraid to get stuck in against older and more experienced opponents.
Mane averages 2.3 shots and 1.5 successful dribbles per 90 minutes for a team that holds the third-lowest share of possession at 43.3%. He also accounts for almost one-third of his team’s shots on target per match: Wolves average 3.3 per 90 while Mane averages 1.0 himself.
He will soon have to decide where to continue his career. Playing time is not guaranteed at any of the huge clubs he’s linked to, but he may not want to pass up the opportunity to move to one of Europe’s giants as his boyhood club looks increasingly destined for Championship football in 2026/27.
