Man Utd plot €40m bid for La Liga left-back after Patrick Dorgu position change
Man Utd are set to make a €40 million bid for Barcelona left back Alejandro Balde, according to Fichajes.
At just 22 years old, Balde has quickly developed into a key player under manager Hansi Flick. He has started 17 of Barca’s 24 La Liga matches and has formed a dangerous partnership with Raphinha on the left side.
Balde is a technically gifted player in the classic La Masia mould, and he pairs that with supreme athleticism to stretch defences and provide width for his teammates.
Given his age and pedigree, Balde would become Man Utd’s left back for the present and future if a deal is reached.
It should be noted that Balde’s Estimated Transfer Value of €63.2 million is considerably higher than what Man Utd are reported to be offering, so the clubs may need to negotiate in order to find an agreement.
Dorgu’s attacking success creates Man Utd left-back need
Patrick Dorgu was signed from Lecce in January 2025 to be Man Utd’s left back of the future.
He began his career at that position on the red side of Manchester, but was unable to find consistency as a wing-back under Ruben Amorim.
In the last couple of months, and especially since Michael Carrick took over as interim manager, the Denmark international has found a new lease of life playing on the wing.
Dorgu scored against Man City and Arsenal, which were his last two appearances before suffering a hamstring injury that will keep him out until April. Four of his six Premier League goal contributions have come since he began playing further forward.
Adding Balde could further unlock Dorgu in the same way that the Spanish fullback’s presence helped Raphinha to a career-best season with 34 goals and 22 assists in 57 appearances in 2024/25.
