Barcelona confirm €250m bid for Yamal from PSG

Speaking on YouTube, Romano said: “It was around April or May 2024. Yamal was 16, about to turn 17 years old—remember what happened with his situation about turning 17. PSG made an official proposal to Barcelona to sign Yamal. Again, he was very young but already a very clear talent. And so this is why PSG arrived very big to try and sign him. The proposal from PSG, says Laporta, was €250m. Yes, 250.

“Paris Saint-Germain presented that kind of proposal—and imagine, it was even before the summer, before the Euros, so before Lamine really became the best version of the young talent we saw in recent years. PSG and Barcelona, both clubs share a very good relationship with Jorge Mendes, who is the agent of Lamine, and so this is why he's always been in the middle of these stories.

“But for Barcelona, the answer was always very clear. Laporta said ‘we rejected immediately that proposal; we said no to €250 million for a boy who was about to turn 17 years old.' And for Barcelona, it was very clear. They didn't want to open any negotiation. They didn't want to open any door to the exit of Lamine.

“That was crazy money—probably also helpful to help Barcelona financially in terms of future investments, in terms of future signings and all the rest. But for Barcelona, for Laporta, for Deco, for all the people at the club, Yamal has always been more than a player; a symbol of this project, a symbol of this era. And this is why they said no to PSG.

Karl set to extend Bayern Munich contract

Bayern Munich are in talks to extend the contract of wonderkid Lennart Karl after he turned 18 recently, allowing him to sign a long-term professional deal.

“Karl signed a new contract in the summer ahead of the new season,” Romano said. “In this contract there was a clause to make his contract professional after turning 18. So a few days ago, that contract is now active until June 2029 with an increased salary.

“But Bayern are already advancing in negotiations with the Karl camp, including one of his advisors, Michael Ballack, the former legendary German midfielder. He's part of the camp of Karl and Bayern are negotiating already a new contract until 2031. A very long contract with even better salary because Bayern want to close doors to other clubs' interest.

“Karl was very honest at that time when he did an interview saying he was dreaming about Real Madrid. It was a few months ago. One day in the mind of Karl, the dream of playing for Real Madrid remains, but Karl never wanted to create a big media problem with that interview. He was just being very honest. He was just being very open about the situation. But that's it.

“Karl is very happy at Bayern, he is very focused on Bayern. Karl is negotiating a new contract with Bayern because he's prepared to trust the Bayern project. So that's the reality.”

PSG in talks to extend contracts of key stars

PSG have agreed new contracts with Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz but negotiations are ongoing to extend the deal of youngster Senny Mayulu.

Romano said: "Very good news for PSG fans because Neves, one of the best players in the world in my personal opinion and one of the best midfielders for sure, has signed a new contract at PSG. We wait for an official announcement but is everything signed, everything completed. Neves signed until June 2030. PSG gave him a new contract. Well deserved.

“And also don't forget that Ruiz also has an agreement with Paris over a new contract. So Fabián is extending, Neves has extended and for PSG this is very good news.

“Paris have also offered a new contract to one of their best talents in the squad, Senny Mayulu. PSG have made this proposal to the boy. Paris have already presented this proposal to the agents but at the moment there is still distance between PSG and Mayulu over the contract. Not just a financial discussion, also a technical discussion.

“Mayulu is very happy at Paris—Paris is a fantastic place to be of course—but obviously he wants to understand the plan for the long term and in terms of game time how it's going to go. So there is a conversation underway.

“At the moment there is no panic, no alert, but for sure a situation to follow because Paris proposed a new contract to Fabián Ruiz—agreed; proposed a new contract to João Neves—agreed; in the case of Mayulu, there is still some work to do. Don't forget also that Nuno Mendes has already extended his contract with Paris. So a very good moment in terms of future plans for PSG."

Ronaldo commits to Saudi Arabia

Romano also confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to remain in Saudi Arabia after speculation over his future in recent weeks.

“After everything happened around January, beginning of February, I always told you: no panic, not overreacting, not exaggerating,” Romano said. “It's not something to put in the media as it was in the media everywhere 'Cristiano could leave Saudi, Cristiano could go to MLS, Cristiano could be here, could be there'.

“I told you the problem was just something in the management of the budget in January, not between Cristiano, not between the management, the coach and all the rest. It was with PIF, the group controlling the Saudi investments. That's it. Cristiano is happy at Al-Nassr and now Cristiano confirms: 'I belong to Saudi Arabia. I want to continue in Saudi Arabia. This is what Cristiano said over the weekend.

“Cristiano is showing commitment to the project. Cristiano is absolutely determined to make history at Al-Nassr. This team is doing very well and so now Cristiano’s decision is also public and clear.”
