Rangers blow Celtic and Arsenal out of the water with midfielder talks
Rangers have "surged past" Celtic and Arsenal in the race to sign BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen, according to a report.
The Gers are in the midst of a vitally important January transfer window. New head coach Danny Rohl inherited a squad tailored to Russell Martin and is aiming to ring in the changes.
Several players are slated to depart Ibrox this month, while perhaps an even bigger number of fresh faces could arrive. So far, though, Rangers have yet to add anyone, but this could be about to change.
According to TEAMtalk, the Glasgow giants have opened talks with Hacken over star midfielder Silas Andersen, who has impressed suitors around Europe since joining from Utrecht 12 months ago.
Arsenal have been scouting the 21-year-old in recent weeks, while the report claims that Nottingham Forest and Copenhagen explored a move for him in the summer. Celtic, it is asserted, have also looked at the Denmark youth international.
Rangers open Andersen talks
However, it is Rangers who now appear to be the favourites for the midfielder's signing as they look for a suitable replacement for flop summer recruit Joe Rothwell.
Andersen won't come cheap, though. Hacken paid what is by their standards a sizeable €1 million to sign him last year, and director Martin Ericsson has already confirmed that it will take a "significant" fee to prise him away.
Talks with the Swedish club have been opened following some formal enquiries from the Gers. However, they are not putting all their eggs in one basket when it comes to midfield signings.
It has also been reported that Rangers are in talks with Sturm Graz over a potential move for Tochi Chukwuani, who has been billed as a potential replacement for Rothwell as well.
Andersen previously admitted that it would be a dream to move to the Premier League. Heading to one of the biggest clubs in Britain could be the first step towards achieving that dream.
