Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Juventus have approached Liverpool over the potential return of Federico Chiesa.

The Italy international left the Old Lady acrimoniously in the summer of 2024 after being deemed surplus to requirements by then-head coach Thiago Motta.

Chiesa won the Premier League at Liverpool in his debut season, but truth be told, he contributed very little to this success. Arne Slot was reluctant to use the winger due to his fitness issues.

Despite this, the 28-year-old opted to stay at Anfield in the summer. Chiesa has become a fan favourite due to his application when afforded chances, and he has been a regular substitute this season.

However, a player of his calibre is naturally not content with just an auxiliary role, and suitors are looking to exploit this now. On Saturday, reports in Italy revealed that Juventus had begun exploring a spectacular return of Chiesa.

Juventus in formal contact with Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Juventus have established formal contact with Liverpool regarding a potential move for their former star attacker.

Discussions are still at an early stage, but the reports over the weekend suggested that Chiesa could be receptive to the Old Lady's interest. The new regime in Turin greatly admires the player, and the feeling is mutual.

Chiesa is said to be open to reuniting with former Italy boss Luciano Spalletti, although he is not desperate to leave Liverpool. A lot will depend on Mohamed Salah's situation once he returns from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Egyptian has hinted that he could leave the Reds this month, but Liverpool want him to stay, and Slot has insisted that the issues with the 33-year-old have been put to bed.

Salah staying could make Liverpool open to the departure of Chiesa, with Juventus reportedly looking to sign the Italian on an initial loan deal until the end of the season.
