Chelsea Transfer News Today: Centre-back hopes boosted as Palmer status made clear
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, including updates on Jeremy Jacquet, Cole Palmer, and Filip Jorgensen.
Jeremy Jacquet boosts Chelsea hopes
Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet “has expressed a preference for joining Chelsea,” according to Sky Sports News.
The French club want to keep the 20-year-old defender until the summer.
Jacquet has played 1,513 minutes in Ligue 1 this season, third-most at the club behind goalkeeper Brice Samba and midfielder Valentin Rongier.
That is his highest number of minutes in a single season as a professional.
Rennes are sixth in Ligue 1 after 19 matches played. The club want him to stay as they compete for a place in Europe next season, while the player seems to want to take advantage of his strong performances and seal a lucrative transfer.
Cole Palmer deemed untouchable
Despite dealing with a nagging calf injury that has limited his playing time and production this season, Cole Palmer has been labeled ‘untouchable’ by the Chelsea hierarchy and is happy at the club, according to Sky Sports News.
His four goals and zero assists in the league are a far cry from his 15 goals and eight assists last season. But it is important to note that he has played just 754 minutes in 12 Premier League appearances due to the calf problem.
Palmer has only appeared in one Champions League game, and he scored in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich in September.
He has played the full 90 minutes twice in his last three appearances, which is encouraging for the club.
Plus, he scored a penalty in his most recent appearance in a 2-0 win over Brentford, and he has two goals in his last four matches.
Filip Jorgensen set to stay
Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal for a €24.5m fee 18 months ago, is set to stay at Chelsea this month, per Sky Sports News.
Clubs from England, Germany, and Turkey were reportedly keen on acquiring his services.
Jorgensen has made nine appearances this season, just two of which came in the league. Three were in the League Cup, two in the Champions League, and one in the FA Cup.
He has been unable to keep a clean sheet in any of those matches, but he played a key role in last season’s Europa Conference League title with 14 appearances in the competition.
Sterling set to leave Chelsea?
Raheem Sterling is set to leave Chelsea before the January window closes, as reported by Sky Sports News.
The former England international still has 18 months left on his current deal worth over €325,000 per week.
The report did not name any clubs keen on acquiring his services, although Fabrizio Romano said the club and the player’s representatives are in contact about a move.
