Banned Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk has sent a message to supporters amid rumours that he could depart the club this month.

The Ukraine international has not played a minute of competitive football in over a year after allegedly failing a drug test while on international duty with his country.

Mudryk, who asserts his innocence, had to wait until the summer to be officially charged by the FA, but the status of the case remains unclear. The Chelsea winger has not yet officially received a punishment in what has been described as a "painfully slow process."

If found guilty, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years, the first year of which he has now already served, but there have also been some rumours in recent weeks that he could be cleared this month.

A report from Spain claimed last month that 17 January could be a decisive day in the Mudryk saga and that, if proven innocent, Chelsea could loan him out to help him get back to full match sharpness in the second half of the season. Sevilla and Strasbourg were touted as possible landing spots.

Mudryk sends Chelsea message

Mudryk, for his part, clearly believes that his Chelsea career is far from over. Shortly after midnight on 1 January, the Ukraine international took to social media to urge Blues supporters to keep faith in him.

"Happy New Year to all my fans," Mudryk wrote on Instagram. "I just wanted to say thank you for your support. I see all your messages and truly appreciate them, so please don't give up on me, as I [won't] give up on myself. Can't wait to see you soon."

Whether the 24-year-old will indeed learn his fate this month remains to be seen. The confidential nature of the matter means that the claims from Spain are unlikely to be accurate.

However, Mudryk still has a long-term contract at Chelsea. Even if he were handed a lengthy ban, he would still be tied to the club until 2031. That said, it is possible and perhaps even likely that the Stamford Bridge outfit would look to terminate his deal.

Paul Pogba had his Juventus contract torn up despite his four-year doping ban being shortened to 18 months, while Bundesliga side Hamburg terminated the existing contract of Mario Vuskovic when he was banned. However, he will receive a new deal when his ban expires next year.
