Chelsea owners slammed for 'humiliating' Liam Rosenior deal
The Strasbourg supporters federation, FSRCS, has released an official statement condemning Liam Rosenior’s move to Chelsea.
The 41-year-old has officially been appointed as the Blues’ permanent replacement for Enzo Maresca, following the Italian’s exit on 1 January, leaving Strasbourg mid-season in the process.
The Ligue 1 side are currently seventh in the French top flight after 17 matches, having failed to win any of Rosenior’s final five league games in charge, and the likes of Gary O’Neil and Brian Barry-Murphy have both been linked with the vacant job.
The relationship between the Strasbourg fans and BlueCo, the owners of Chelsea and the French club, has deteriorated completely over the past year, with the majority believing they have been transformed into a feeder club for the Blues.
Mamadou Sarr became the first Strasbourg player to join Chelsea under the new regime last summer, before being sent back on loan, while Emmanuel Emegha’s move in the same direction was confirmed in September and created mass uproar.
Rosenior’s departure has caused a similar reaction in France and the Strasbourg supporters have now hit back at the BlueCo regime with a damning statement.
Strasbourg fans release Liam Rosenior exit statement
“The transfer of Liam Rosenior marks another humiliating step in Racing’s subservience to Chelsea. For two and a half years, along with others, we have been trying to raise the alarm about this,” the statement read (as per The Sun).
“The problem goes far beyond the mid-season sporting impact and the ambitions of a young coach. It is structural; the future of French club football is at stake.
“Every additional contortion by Marc Keller, every extra minute spent at the helm of the club, is an insult to the tremendous work accomplished before 2023. What was seen by many as an outrageous move last September increasingly looks like sound advice: he must leave. Now.
“The FSRCS will coordinate closely with the three other associations actively fighting against multiple ownership, as well as all people of goodwill, to define the next steps. Go Racing!”
