€65m Man Utd target to complete bargain transfer 'in the coming days'
€65 million Manchester United target Ricardo Mathias is set to leave Internacional for Al-Ahli imminently - and he will cost less than €10m.
The Brazilian youngster has had an up-and-down 2025. Mathias impressed in Serie A over the summer, which earned him rave reviews and attracted the attention of European scouts.
Man Utd, in particular, were frequently associated with the towering striker in the Brazilian press. The Red Devils reportedly watched the 19-year-old up close numerous times.
However, a month spent primarily on the bench resulted in transfer speculation dying down. Man Utd appeared to distance themselves from Mathias, particularly due to his whopping €65 million release clause.
A decent end to the season, with two goals in his final five outings, did little to change the situation. Now, Mathias is set to leave Internacional, not for Old Trafford but for Saudi Arabia.
Mathias closing in on bargain transfer
According to Globo, a transfer to the reigning champions of Asia, Al-Ahli, is imminent. Surprisingly, the Saudi giants are about to secure the signing of Mathias for a bargain fee of just €9.25 million, a far cry from the previously touted €65m.
Internacional need to balance the books this offseason, which is why they were in a weak negotiating position regarding the future of the striker. They will only receive 60 per cent of the transfer fee, with 40 per cent owed to his former club Ferroviaria.
Nevertheless, this fee will allow the Brazilian club to reach the financial objective set for this winter. 18-year-old midfielder Luis Otavio has also just been sold to MLS franchise Orlando City for around €3.4m.
The report states that Mathias is in the process of finalising his move to Jeddah. His transfer to Al-Ahli will be formally completed "in the coming days."
