Liverpool get positive Marc Guehi update as 'likeliest outcome' revealed
Crystal Palace have added Atalanta centre-back Odilon Kossounou to their list of potential Marc Guehi replacements amid continued interest from Liverpool.
The Eagles have been forced to explore the centre-backs market following the inevitable decision from club captain Guehi to pursue a new challenge in 2026.
Crystal Palace had hoped that the England centre-back would extend his expiring contract, but Eagles boss Oliver Glasner confirmed in October that Guehi had turned down the club's proposal.
In the summer, Guehi was minutes away from completing a move to reigning Premier League champions Liverpool, who remain interested in the 25-year-old heading into 2026.
He will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from 1 January, but Liverpool could launch another bid for the defender to bring him in mid-season. Whether the Palace captain is willing to make a winter move in a World Cup year, though, is the subject of debate.
Palace line up Guehi replacement
According to TEAMtalk, Palace have added Atalanta centre-back Odilon Kossounou to their shortlist of targets as Guehi's departure moves ever closer. The Ivorian joins compatriot Ousmane Diomande and Burnley's Maxime Esteve on Glasner's wishlist.
Kossounou won the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24 before departing for Italy on an initial loan, which was later made permanent for €20 million.
Palace have been scouting the 24-year-old extensively in recent times, and it seems that a move in 2026 could be possible despite the fact that he only permanently joined Atalanta this summer.
This is a positive update for Liverpool in their chase for Guehi, but the report also insists that this will hardly move the needle for January. It is claimed that the 'likeliest outcome' is still a free transfer in the summer.
