Isak injury is 'karma' for forcing Liverpool transfer from Newcastle, claims ex-Premier League chief
Alexander Isak’s leg injury is ‘karma’ for the way the Liverpool striker engineered his exit from Newcastle this summer, according to a former Premier League owner in a controversial comment.
Isak went on strike at Newcastle in July by refusing to train or feature in matches, which led to the Magpies eventually agreeing a British transfer record fee with Liverpool for their star man.
The 26-year-old has since struggled for form and fitness, however he scored his second Premier League goal for Liverpool in their 2-1 win at Tottenham last weekend, only to suffer a leg break in the process – something which ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan claimed as ‘what goes around comes around’.
“I’m desperately trying to avoid myself disappearing into the ghost of Jacob Marley, and looking at the karma of Alexander Isak’s position in terms of not landing at Liverpool and achieving very much," Jordan said on talkSPORT.
“He now potentially finds himself out for the season. I’m desperately trying to avoid that version of myself.
“I don’t want anyone breaking their legs, but I also look at the dynamics of how people behave and think, sometimes, that what goes around comes around. That’s mean spirited, I know.”
Isak’s nightmare debut season with Liverpool after controversial Newcastle exit
Isak has suffered repeated injuries since his move to Liverpool, having missed just for Premier League games last season, with the Swede only featuring in ten league matches so far this year.
Having trained by himself during his Newcastle strike, Isak was eased into action by Arne Slot after his signing but only scored one goal in his first ten matches in all competitions.
He then suffered another hamstring injury which kept him out of action for almost a month but he finally looked to be finding some rhythm with two goals in his last six matches.
However, a challenge by Micky van de Ven during Isak’s shot for his goal led to the striker breaking his fibula, which could see him miss up to 12 weeks of action, although Liverpool are optimistic they will see their record signing back before the end of the season.
