Man Utd’s transfer plan: ‘Top source’ reveals Amorim primed to make January signing
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is in position to welcome a potentially season-changing signing in the form of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson to Old Trafford in January.
The Red Devils focused on signing offensive reinforcements in the summer as they added Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to their ranks before goalkeeper Sanne Lammens was snapped up.
There was widespread surprise that more of an effort was not made to reinforce Amorim’s midfield, but according to a “top source”, fresh moves will come in January.
Andy Mitten, regarded as a trusted source on Red Devils transfer news, told the Talk of the Devils podcast, what he believes Amorim’s plan will be.
“I think United will go for two central midfielders in the summer,” he said. “And Elliot Anderson is the one who would be well-positioned at the moment for Manchester United.”
TeamTalk has reported that Man Utd are preparing a bid worth €68 million to sign the England international from Forest when the transfer window opens, though their Premier League rivals are reluctant to sell.
Elliot Anderson has a profile that fits Man Utd’s aims
Anderson has the profile that Ineos want for new additions. At 23 years old, he remains a young player with great potential, but he also has Premier League experience.
Having seen Sesko struggle early in his Old Trafford career while Cunha and Mbeumo have hit the ground running, there is likely to be a tendency to err towards players who are tried and trusted in England’s top flight.
Although United have been linked with a string of midfielders, Anderson is seen as a strong option for Amorim’s side, possessing a high level of potential for a comparatively reasonable fee compared to, say, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who has had a price tag of €100m+ put on his head.
Anderon’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands a €54.3m, and while Forest will likely ask for a chunk more than that, Man Utd’s €68m bid looks reasonable.
Better options out there
According to analysis carried out by FootballTransfers, there are better options than Anderson on Man Utd’s six-man midfield shortlist.
Both Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace – a difficult player to land in January – and Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher – a more realistic target – are seen as stronger fits.
With Man Utd set to make two midfield signings, though, there is still the possibility that they will get Anderson and one of this pair.
