Chelsea are reportedly ready to reincorporate one of their forgotten stars back into the first team despite the player being part of Enzo Maresca’s bomb squad this summer.

The Blues have struggled with injuries this season, particularly defensively, while they have kept just four clean sheets in their last 14 matches across all competitions.

Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile are still sidelined with injuries, while Jorrel Hato, Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah have been in questionable form, leading to Sky Sports claiming that Axel Disasi could be drafted into the first team from the cold.

“He was told ‘you're not required, go and find yourself a new club’,” Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said. “There was talk of him moving in the summer to places like Sunderland, West Ham, Bournemouth. I think he preferred to move abroad, but a move didn't materialise. And he's ended up in the bomb squad, training on his own or training with Raheem Sterling.

“But we've been getting information that he's actually been training really, really well. Chelsea have been impressed with his attitude. And on Saturday, out of the blue, he captained Chelsea's under-21 side, even though he's well over 21, in their game against Reading.

“And we told you a couple of days ago that he was in line to be reintegrated back into the Chelsea first-team squad. And that is exactly what's happened today, because he's trained at Cobham with the Chelsea first-team. And I think between now and January, he'll probably play for the Chelsea first-team again.”

Disasi hoping to save Chelsea career with one more chance

Disasi last played for Chelsea in January before joining Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of last season, where he featured ten times in all competitions.

The 27-year-old had been told last summer that he was not part of Maresca’s plans and only six of his 17 appearances for the Blues came in the Premier League, with the rest coming in cup competitions.

Disasi, once again, was relegated to Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad’ in the summer, where he has remained alongside Sterling after failing to find a move during the transfer window, and he was left out of the club’s 25-man Premier League squad this season.

Chelsea would still listen to offers for Disasi in January, particularly if they look to sign another defender, but, with the Frenchman still having more than three years on his contract, he will seemingly be given one last chance to resurrect his career at Stamford Bridge.
