Estevao effect: Chelsea target another Brazilian wonderkid in major transfer push
Chelsea are aiming to repeat the transfer success they have enjoyed with Willian Estevao by snapping up another young Brazilian talent in the form of Vitor Roque.
Estevao has exploded at Stamford Bridge, rapidly earning a reputation as one of the best young players in the Premier League.
Signed for €45 million last summer, the 18-year-old has four goals and one assist already in West London, providing the type of impact that gets fans excited each time he receives possession.
This was underlined on Saturday as he provided the catalyst to Joao Pedro’s goal in the 3-0 win over Wolves just seconds after arriving off the bench.
Chelsea’s investment already looks a bargain. Estevao’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has risen to €73.6m – around 50% more than they paid Palmeiras to sign him.
Chelsea aiming to repeat Estevao success with Vitor Roque
Fresh from the success of the Estevao signing, Enzo Maresca’s side are now ready to dip back into the Brazilian market for Vitor Roque.
The 20-year-old attacker was long regarded as one of his country’s most vibrant attacking prospects and completed a €30m move to Barcelona as an 18-year-old, having been chased by virtually every major European club previously.
The decision to move to Barca, though, proved an ill-fated one. He failed to make an impact and was loaned out to Real Betis 12 months later. A return of seven goals on 33 games was not enough for the Seville side to keep him, and the Blaugrana sold him back to Palmeiras last summer for a small loss.
After 15 goals in 20 matches back in Brazil, Vitor Roque has rapidly rebuilt his reputation and, according to Sky Sport Switzerland, is now wanted by both Chelsea and Manchester United.
His ETV currently stands at €24.9m but the Premier League giants have been linked with a €50m offer.
The Blues interest is described as being “more concrete”, with the West London side “making a serious effort to sign” him. Maresca’s side see him as “a future-proof signing capable of reinforcing their attack”.
Chelsea have proven in the case of Estevao that they are a club that can nurture the best young Brazilian talent, and to that end, may make an ideal destination should Vitor Roque decide to give European football a go for a second time.
