Fabrizio Romano has explained that there is no reason to panic despite the delay to Wilfried Nancy's appointment by Celtic.

The Hoops had initially wanted to present a new head coach during the international break, but Martin O'Neill remains in interim charge of the club. At the weekend, the 73-year-old led Celtic to a narrow away win over St. Mirren, thanks to a stoppage-time strike from Callum McGregor.

Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy has been considered the clear favourite for the vacant managerial position for a couple of weeks now, but his appointment has still not been confirmed by the Parkhead club.

Two weeks ago, reports claimed that Celtic were looking to finalise his arrival within a few days, but there has been radio silence basically ever since, causing some consternation.

The delay has provided some fodder to the ever-churning rumour mill, with some claiming that Celtic are having second thoughts about appointing the Frenchman. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Celtic have Nancy situation 'under control'

According to the transfer insider, the situation remains 'under control' as there is a 'verbal agreement' already in place with the 48-year-old. The delay is due to what Romano describes as 'technical things.'

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Italian explained: "Technical things, but the verbal agreement is in place, so the situation is currently considered under control."

It can only be speculated what Romano means by 'technical things,' but it does perhaps have something to do with the compensation the Columbus Crew are owed.

Nancy still has a year to run on his contract, and although it was previously claimed that agreeing a compensation fee wouldn't be a big issue, it is unlikely that the Crew are willing to let their hugely successful coach go without a fight.
